#30: Eurotrip February 2023 (Part 3: Vienna – can you see it in 24 hours?)

Simply put, obviously you cannot see Vienna in only 24 hours! But you can make a good start on it.

The trams in Vienna were very fun to ride on, and were (of course) very punctual.

Our main concern with finding somewhere to stay was that we also needed somewhere to park car. We were in luck as we came across a simple but functional AirBnB on outskirts. Vienna, as we had not realised before, is actually a very small city, and even from the relative outer city, it is only a 10 minute tram ride into the centre.

On our first afternoon, we made it to the famous Vienna Zoo. This is such a spectacle, you could probably spend an entire 24 hours just here (you actually can, there is a package to camp out overnight in the zoo!). We managed to speed walk between animals and still got chucked out at closing time. There were so many different animals to see – rhinos, giraffes, flamingos, red pandas, koalas – you name it, you can probably see it in the zoo in Vienna!

This particularly primate enjoyed posing for his photograph while pondering life overlooking the city!
A beautiful cheetah was a bit unsure of us.

On our way back, we went for a wander around

Schonbrunn palace was quite a sight to behold in the setting sun.

After several hours of walking around the zoo and the surrounding parks, we headed back towards the centre. To replenish energy, Eliza insisted that we stopped for a hot chocolate. We went to the Café Mozart, which was an excellent (and, for Vienna, not too horrendously over budget) choice.

Viennese buildings are beautiful.

Second day: we kicked off with an early morning run around centre, but we were too early it turned out… everything was shut including the parks! After a therefore pavement heavy run, we returned to pack up before going for a walk around the key sights of the capital. The general wealth of architecture was outstanding, and the Spanish riding school was a sight to behold. All in all, Vienna seems to be an art history or architecture student’s galore.

One horse to rule them all? Or… a horse in a heated bay?

We then finished our time in Vienna with a trip to the art museum which was huge and so worth the visit! If you have any interest in art, we’d highly recommend it. Even if you aren’t interested in art, the building itself is so ornate and magical, it’s still a spectacle.

So, after an action packed 24 hours in this capital, we had covered as much as possible. With a hope to return at some point in the future, we headed off on the (not) long trip to our next stop: Bratislava.
